A Doctor Without Need for Generic Viagra
In 2009 the makers of Generic Viagra decided to open an office in Tokyo. They asked one of their top marketers, Doug Bellows, to head-up that new marketing department. Doug had some knowledge of the Japanese language and more than a passing familiarity with the Japanese culture.
Two months after arriving in Tokyo, Doug overheard some restaurant patrons talking about a doctor. Doug picked-up from their conversation the name of the doctor. He wrote down the name of the doctor and took that information to his office. There Doug searched on the Internet for the location of the doctor’s office.
Using online information, Doug got the address of the doctor about whom two Japanese men had been talking. Doug read the words “Akazawa Roboclinic” next to the doctor’s name, but he was not sure how to translate that phrase. He assumed that it was a Japanese term for a particular medical specialty.
Doug could not be sure just what sorts of complaints were heard by that doctor. Still, Doug could tell that the doctor did have male patients. He was obviously not an obstetrician or a gynecologist. Doug decided to visit that doctor’s office.
Doug wanted to discover how often the doctor met with male patients, especially patients who might need ED pills. Doug could only hope that Japanese men became less concerned about “face” in a doctor’s office. Doug planned to give the doctor a number of samples of Generic Viagra.
Doug went to the doctor’s office early the next morning. No patients were seated in the waiting room at that time. The receptionist promised Doug that he would have to wait only a short time before meeting with the doctor. Doug stayed seated in the waiting room, hopeful that no salesman with samples of Generic Cialis had earlier visited the same office.
Finally the doctor arrived. Doug was admitted into his office. Bowing respectfully, Doug told the doctor that he sought was searching for Japanese patients who could use Generic Viagra. Doug started to reach for his Viagra samples when he glanced at the doctor’s face.
Doug could see that the doctor looked confused. Then suddenly the doctor started laughing. Finally he explained that he could not help Doug; he could not supply Doug with the names of any patients wanting ED pills, including Generic Cialis and Viagra.
The “doctor” about whom Doug had heard the two men in the restaurant speaking was a former engineer. Having left that position, he now had a job repairing robots. The Japanese called him a robot doctor.
Doug apologized profusely to the head of the robot clinic. He thanked the man for his time. Then Doug made his way back to his office, aware that he would need to renew his search for Japanese men in need of ED pills.
While Doug felt a bit foolish, he consoled himself with one thought. Doug had at least found one Japanese “doctor” who would not be planning to recommend Generic Cialis to any of his patients.
